The ACVV signed an agreement with GERATEC to facilitate a series of workshops for all staff and volunteers of the organisation, focusing on nurturing. Since June, about 110 Social Workers attended our workshops in Paarl, Riebeek Kasteel and Mossel Bay.
The ACVV (Afrikaanse Christelike Vroue Vereniging) started in 1908 as an organisation that cared for victims of the Anglo Boer War. Since then it has grown to become the largest organisation of its kind, providing social care for vulnerable children, families and older people throughout the country.
GERATEC’s training aims to create awareness of the importance of self reflection and non-judgemental self observation as a point of departure for nurturing the self. Our work is centred on the “Whole Person Wellness” model pioneered by Jan Montague, providing a focus on the following domains:
• Spiritual,
• Vocational,
• Emotional,
• Intellectual,
• Physical, and
• Social wellness
The training also looks at the principles of Person-centred Organisations.
In the photograph the participants are given a group challenge that seems easy: to collectively lower a tent pole to the ground. But it proves to be impossible if there is no cohesion in the team. It is a practical example of how we tend to look at others instead of focusing on ourselves!
This culture change project will continue for three years, with a grand send-off at the ACVV internal conference in September of 2013, where the theme of nurturing will be officially launched.
