Award-Winning Video Training for Residential Care: A Resource Worth Sharing

At GERATEC, we are always searching for resources that strengthen the hands and hearts of those who care for older persons. At the IFA Conference in South Africa last September, we met Kimberley Littlemore, founder of eHealth Digital Media Ltd. Her deep commitment to practical, accessible education for carers stood out immediately.

Today, we are pleased to share a valuable new resource already making a significant international impact.

Introducing the PocketMedic Residential Care Series

Kimberley and her team released training films for carers in residential care settings. In the first week, the series reached nearly 4,500 views and received an award. This shows its quality and relevance. These films are practical, grounded, and human. They suit real-world care environments.

The films are available here: https://pocketmedic.org/carers-residential/

Why This Matters for the Aged Care Sector

Across South Africa — and globally — we face several shared realities:

  • Increasing care complexity
  • Workforce strain and training gaps
  • Growing expectations from families
  • A pressing need for consistent, high-quality relational care

Video-based training offers several advantages:

  • Accessible learning for staff across shifts
  • Standardised messaging across teams
  • Visual modelling of best practice
  • Family education support to improve understanding of residential care

These films are helpful for families wanting to understand residential care. Informed families are more confident, collaborative, and supportive care partners.

Alignment with Relationship-Centred Care

At GERATEC, our work — including our integration of The Eden Alternative’s philosophy — emphasises dignity, autonomy, and meaningful relationships.

Resources like the PocketMedic series support this vision by:

  • Reinforcing respectful communication
  • Promoting understanding of cognitive changes
  • Strengthening practical caregiving skills
  • Normalising the emotional complexity of residential care

When careers feel equipped, and families feel informed, older persons experience more consistent, compassionate support.

The Power of Human-First Education

In an era of generic AI content, authenticity and lived experience make educational tools meaningful.

From our interactions with Kimberley and her international team, this series was not produced remotely. It reflects:

  • Clinical insight
  • Real care scenarios
  • An understanding of workforce realities
  • A commitment to practical, not performative, learning

That matters.

A Note on Innovation

Kimberley also shared exciting progress on a sensory assessment tool for people experiencing cognitive changes, currently undergoing clinical and academic validation. As the aged care sector increasingly recognises the importance of sensory processing for wellbeing, we will watch this area with great interest.

Could This Resource Support Your Team?

If you are:

  • A residential care provider
  • A training coordinator
  • A nurse manager
  • A family member seeking a better understanding
  • An organisation aligned with Eden principles.

If you find value in these resources, actively share them with colleagues and networks to expand their impact.

Our Perspective

At GERATEC, we believe sector transformation happens through:

  • Shared knowledge
  • International collaboration
  • Practical innovation
  • And above all — human connection

Resources such as this strengthen our collective ability to care well for older persons.

We extend our congratulations to Kimberley and the team at eHealth Digital Media Ltd on an impactful launch — and we look forward to seeing how these films continue to support carers and families globally.
